## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 14, 2014, AT APPROXIMATELY 09:30, AIRCRAFT N441B, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND AT BUCKEYE ARIZONA (BXK), EXPERIENCED A STRONG GUST OF WIND PUSHING THE AIRCRAFT OFF OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT AND CONTROL WHEN A SECOND GUST PUSHED THE AIRCRAFT FURTHER CAUSING THE LEFT WING TO DIP AND THE LEFT LANDING GEAR TO STRIKE THE GROUND AND WAS SEVERED FROM THE PLANE. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO BRING THE AIRCRAFT TO A SAFE STOP BUT NOT BEFORE SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE WAS CAUSED TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE DAMAGE INCLUDED THE LEFT WING STRUCTURAL DAMAGE INCLUDING THE WING SPAR, FUSELAGE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE CAUSED WHEN THE LANDING GEAR WAS SEVERED. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT THERE WERE TWO OCCUPANTS IN THE AIRCRAFT, NEITHER OF WHICH WERE INJURED. PRIOR TO FAA INVOLVEMENT, THE AIRCRAFT WAS MOVED OUT OF STATE. DAMAGE ASSESSMENT WAS MADE FROM PILOT AND AIRCRAFT OWNER STATEMENTS AS WELL AS PICTURES TAKEN POST-ACCIDENT. THE WEATHER REPORTED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS CLEAR WITH WINDS AT 10 KNOTS FROM 110. THE WIND SPEED AND DIRECTION WAS CONSISTENT WITH THE PILOT STATEMENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA20CA045](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA20CA045), Oct 14, 2019: Aeropro CZ A220 (N441B), Buckeye, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during an aborted landing with a crosswind, which resulted in tailwheel impacting vegetation and the left main landing gear collapsing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
