ONE PERSON WAS A CERTIFICATED PRIVATE PILOT AND THE OTHER PERSON A NON CERTIFICATED PASSENGER. SEVERAL HOURS LATER, THE FAMILY OF THE PILOT REALIZED HE HAD NOT RETURNED HOME AND BEGAN SEARCHING FOR HIM. THE PILOT?S DAD TRACKED HIS CELL PHONE SIGNAL AND THIS LED HIM TO THE ACCIDENT SITE. WHEN THE DAD ARRIVED, HE FOUND HIS SON (THE PILOT) AND HIS FRIEND (THE PASSENGER) DECEASED. FIRST RESPONDERS WERE CALLED AND THEY SECURED THE SCENE. THE CRASH SITE IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES EAST OF KBWC. THE COUNTY CORONER ESTIMATED THE TIME OF DEATH TO BE BETWEEN 1:00AM AND 3:00AM. THE FAA?S INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE ENGINE WAS NOT PRODUCING POWER DURING IMPACT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR20FA018](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR20FA018), Oct 31, 2019: Cessna 150 (N7158X), Brawley, CA, substantial damage, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to perform a flight while impaired by the effects of alcohol and cocaine, and his failure to maintain terrain clearance during the flight.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
