## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT APPROXIMATELY 5 PM, ON 01/02/2020 MOONEY N113TN DEPARTED KGEU FOR ITS FIRST FLIGHT AFTER HAVING ITS STARTER ADAPTER ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THE PIC COMPLETED A FULL RUN-UP AND DEPARTED TO THE SOUTHWEST FROM RUNWAY 1 AT KGEU. A FEW MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT, THE PIC FELT A SMALL SHUDDER, AFTER CHECKING THE ENGINE INSTRUMENTS AND NOT SEEING OR FEELING ANYTHING WRONG THE PIC CONTINUED THE FLIGHT. AFTER JUST A COUPLE MORE MINUTES, THE PIC FELT ANOTHER SHUDDER FROM THE FRONT OF THE AIRCRAFT THAT CONTINUED TO GIVE A VIBRATION IN HIS FEET. THE PIC TURNED THE AIRCRAFT AROUND IMMEDIATELY AND HEADED BACK TO KGEU. THE ENGINE INSTRUMENTS WERE ALL IN THE GREEN WITH ONLY A 1 PSI DROP IN OIL PRESSURE. THE PIC CONTACTED KGEU TOWER 10 MILES TO THE SOUTHWEST AND WAS TOLD TO REPORT OVER THE 101 STACK. THE PIC REPORTED OVER THE 101 STACK AND WAS TOLD TO ENTER LEFT TRAFFIC RUNWAY 19. APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES FROM THE AIRPORT THE PIC HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FOLLOWED BY VIBRATIONS AND POWER LOSS. THE PIC CONTACTED KGEU TOWER AND ASKED FOR RUNWAY 1, THE TOWER TOLD THE PIC THAT THE WIND WAS 180 @ 6 KTS CLEAR TO LAND. THE PIC THOUGHT ABOUT DECLARING AN EMERGENCY BUT WAS TOO BUSY FLYING THE PLANE. AS THE PIC SELECTED GEAR DOWN AND FULL FLAPS (BASE TO FINAL), THE PIC OBSERVED OIL COMING FROM THE COWLING. AFTER LANDING, THE PROP STOPPED ROTATING. THE PIC CONTACTED KGEU TOWER AND INFORMED THEM THAT ASSISTANCE TO GET CLEAR OF RUNWAY 1 WAS NEEDED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
