PILOT DEPARTED IXD FOR A LOCAL FLIGHT TO PRACTICE FLIGHT MANEUVERS. DURING RETURN TO THE AIRPORT, ENGINE POWER WAS LOST APPROXIMATELY 5.5 MILES OUT AND THE PILOT EXECUTED A SUCCESSFUL LANDING IN A FARM FIELD.
