## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON RUNWAY 23 AT MORRISTOWN AIRPORT (MMU), N200HF EXPERIENCED A RUNWAY EXCURSION AND OVERRAN THE END OF RUNWAY 23. THE AIRPLANE DEPARTED THE END OF THE RUNWAY, CAME TO A STOP IN GRASS AND MUD, AND THE NOSE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED.

ON AN IFR FLIGHT FROM CATTARAUGUS COUNTY-OLEAN AIRPORT (OLE) TO TETERBORO AIRPORT (TEB) N200HF DIVERTED TO MORRISTOWN AIRPORT BECAUSE TETERBORO AIRPORT WAS BELOW AUTHORIZED LANDING MINIMUMS. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CLEARED FOR AN INSTRUMENT APPROACH (ILS 23, 5998 X 150 FT. RUNWAY WITH PRECISION MARKINGS) AT MORRISTOWN AIRPORT. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT UPON BREAKING OUT ABOVE MINIMUMS HE OBSERVED PATCHY FOG OVER THE RUNWAY, AND THAT HE HELD HIS ALTITUDE UNTIL HE COULD CONFIRM THE RUNWAY AND STARTED LANDING APPROXIMATELY 3,000 FEET FROM THE RUNWAY END WITH GEAR AND FULL FLAPS DOWN. THE PILOT ALSO REPORTED THAT HE WAS AVOIDING USING BETA DUE TO HYDROPLANING AND POSSIBLE LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL REPORTED THAT THE PILOT LANDED WITHIN THE LAST 1,500 FEET OF THE NEARLY 6,000-FOOT-LONG RUNWAY.

THE AIRPLANE WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED DURING THE RUNWAY OVERRUN. THE NOSE WHEEL BROKE OFF IN THE MUD CAUSING THE PROPELLERS FROM BOTH ENGINES TO CONTACT THE GROUND. THE FORWARD FUSELAGE AND PROPELLERS WERE SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THERE WERE NO PRE-ACCIDENT MECHANICAL FAILURES OR MALFUNCTIONS WITH THE AIRPLANE THAT WOULD HAVE PRECLUDED NORMAL OPERATION.

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL REPORTED THE WEATHER AS WIND CALM, 1/2 STATUTE MILE VISIBILITY, FOG, AND OVERCAST AT 300 FEET. THE REPORT DID NOT INCLUDE RUNWAY CONDITIONS.

THE PILOT WAS PROPERLY CERTIFICATED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The airplane hydroplaning while landing on a wet runway, which degraded its braking capability and resulted in a runway overrun onto grass and mud and the nose landing gear collapsing.
