## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PRIVATE PILOT AND CFI WERE ON A FAMILIARIZATION FLIGHT IN A BEECHCRAFT C23. THE PRIVATE PILOT SEATED IN THE LEFT SEAT HAD RECENTLY BECOME PARTNER IN THE ACCIDENT AIRCRAFT AND SOUGHT INSTRUCTION FROM THE CFI SEATED IN THE RIGHT SEAT. AFTER PERFORMING MANEUVERS IN A PRACTICE AREA, THE PRIVATE PILOT AND CFI RETURNED TO CHESAPEAKE REGIONAL AIRPORT (KCPK) TO PERFORM PRACTICE LANDINGS. THE CREW PERFORMED FOUR SUCCESSFUL FULL STOP LANDINGS PRIOR TO THE LAST APPROACH AND LANDING THAT RESULTED IN THE ACCIDENT. DURING THE LANDING FLARE ON RUNWAY 23 AT KCPK, THE FLIGHT CREW ENCOUNTERED A GUST OF WIND FROM THE LEFT. THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED RIGHT OF RUNWAY CENTERLINE AND BOUNCED. THE AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE AGAIN AND CONTINUED DRIFTING OVER THE GRASS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF RUNWAY 23. THE CFI ATTEMPTED TO TAKE CONTROL AND INITIATE A GO AROUND, BUT ENTERED INTO A STALL WHICH SUBSEQUENTLY RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A LEVEL ATTITUDE APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET RIGHT OF RUNWAY CENTERLINE IN THE GRASS. THE SOIL CONDITIONS WERE WET AND MUDDY WHICH AGGRAVATED DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE PROPELLER STRUCK THE GROUND; RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE MAIN LANDING GEAR ATTACH POINTS AND AIRCRAFT STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FUSELAGE.
