## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS ON APPROACH TO SMF R/W 34L WITH THE INTENT TO LEAVE THE AIRCRAFT AT A MAINTENANCE PROVIDER TO ACCOMPLISH SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. THE CREW REPORTED THEY THOUGHT THEY HAD A BIRD STRIKE ON SHORT FINAL. THE AIRCRAFT SAT FOR A MONTH AWAITING THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. DURING THE PERFORMANCE OF THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR OUTBOARD DOOR WAS DAMAGED BY A BIRD IMPACT. THE MAINTENANCE PROVIDER DETERMINED THAT THE BEST ACTION WAS TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED GEAR DOOR WITH A NEW UNIT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
