## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

GROUND INCIDENT: DURING PRE-FLIGHT AND ENGINE START OPERATIONS, ENGINE STARTER DID NOT ENGAGE ENGINE, RESULTING IN A NO-START. PILOT TERMINATED START OPERATIONS/CHECKLIST, TURNED OFF POWERS/SWITCHES, SET PARKING BRAKE AND EXITED THE COCKPIT. PILOT BEGAN PROCEDURE TO SLOWLY TURN THE ENGINE THROUGH VIA A SLOW PROPELLER ROTATION, AT WHICH TIME THE ENGINE UNEXPECTEDLY STARTED. PARKING BRAKE HELD FOR A MOMENT, AND THEN RELEASED. THE AIRCRAFT THEN COLLIDED WITH A HANGAR AFTER THE AIRCRAFT MOVED FORWARD. THE AIRFRAME STRUCK AN ELECTRICAL TRANSFORMER BOX, WHICH CAUSED A FIRE AND SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF THE AIRCRAFT AND ITS CONTENTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN20CA087](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN20CA087), Feb 15, 2020: Vans RV8 (N7736T), Columbus, MS, destroyed. Probable cause: The inadvertent engine start of the unoccupied airplane, which resulted in it moving forward and impacting a hangar and an electrical box.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
