## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS CONDUCTING PATTERN WORK AT THE SONOMA VALLEY AIRPORT. PILOT WAS SIMULATING SHORT FIELD LANDINGS. DURING THE LAST LANDING ATTEMPT, PILOT APPLIED BRAKE PRESSURE RESULTING IN THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTING TO THE RIGHT AND ENTERING HIGH GRASS AREA. AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN AN AGRICULTURAL DRAINAGE DITCH. LEFT GEAR COLLAPSED, PROP STRIKE, FIREWALL AND ENGINE MOUNT DAMAGE, LEFT AILERON AND LEFT WING TIP DAMAGE. ON THE DAY OF THE ACCIDENT, PILOT COMPLETED 1.4 FLT HRS, 10 LANDINGS AT KDVO AND 4 LANDINGS AT K0Q3.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR20CA103](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR20CA103), Feb 28, 2020: CubCrafters FX-3 (N3XC), Sonoma/Schellville, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadvertent activation of the left brake during the landing roll, which resulted in a loss of directional control, a runway excursion, and collision with a ditch.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
