## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A PIPER CUB WAS REPORTED DAMAGED WHILE LANDING IN A WHEAT FIELD AT 17:58 LCL ON FRIDAY 3/20/2020. THE PILOT/OWNER, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, HAD DEPARTED HIS GRASS FARM STRIP WEST OF THE CITY OF CANYON TEXAS WITH A PASSENGER. THEY FLEW TO THE WHEAT FIELD NEXT TO A DEVELOPMENT/CONSTRUCTION SITE AT 16,200 INTERSTATE 27 IN CANYON TX (RANDALL COUNTY). THE WIND WAS ABOUT 10 KNOTS FROM THE NORTH SO HE LANDED TO THE NORTH. ABOUT MIDFIELD THERE WAS A DITCH RUNNING ACROSS THE FIELD AND THE LEFT MAIN WHEEL CAUGHT IN IT AND COLLAPSED THAT GEAR LEG. THE LEFT WING TIP WAS DAMAGED AND THE LEFT WING STRUT WAS BENT. THERE WAS NO FIRE AND NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN20CA129](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN20CA129), Mar 20, 2020: Piper PA18 (N4910P), Canyon, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's selection of unsuitable terrain for landing, which resulted in a collision with a ditch and the left main landing gear collapsing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
