## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

3-21-2020: PILOT LANDED AT ROCKY MOUNT-WILSON REGIONAL AIRPORT (RWI), ROCKY MOUNT, NORTH CAROLINA ABOUT 1630 FOR A FUEL STOP WHILE ENROUTE FROM SOUTH JERSEY REGIONAL AIRPORT (VAY). HE THEN CONTINUED THE FLIGHT TO ZEPHYRHILLS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (ZPH), ZEPHYRHILLS, FLORIDA.

A PRELIMINARY REVIEW OF ATC VOICE RECORDINGS AND RADAR DATA REVEALED THAT, APPROXIMATELY 1852, THE AIRPLANE WAS ENROUTE TO ZPH AT AN ALTITUDE OF ABOUT 8,000 FT MSL IN THE VICINITY OF CHARLESTON, SC. APPROXIMATELY, AT THAT SAME TIME THE PILOT TOLD CHS ATC THAT THE HE WAS HAVING ENGINE TROUBLE AND HE NEEDED TO LAND IMMEDIATELY AT THE NEAREST AIRPORT.

THE CHS APPROACH CONTROLLER GAVE HIM VECTORS TO CHARLESTON EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (JZI). ATC ASKED THE PILOT WHICH ENGINE HE WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH. THE PILOT TOLD HIM LEFT BUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH BOTH ENGINES NOW.

THE CHARLESTON APPROACH CONTROLLER PROVIDED VECTORS TO THE PILOT FOR RUNWAY 9 AT JZI AND RADAR CONTACT WITH THE AIRPLANE WAS LOST ABOUT 1/4-MILE NORTHWEST OF THE APPROACH END FOR RUNWAY 9. THE WRECKAGE WAS LOCATED ON AIRPORT PROPERTY.

OPERATIONAL FACTORS AND ACTION TAKEN WILL BE UPDATED AS SOON AS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS OBTAINED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA20LA132](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA20LA132), Mar 21, 2020: Cessna 310 (N8080M), Charleston, SC, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s fuel mismanagement during flight, resulting in a total loss of engine power due to fuel starvation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
