## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING NORMAL CLIMB OUT, PILOT OBSERVED THAT #3 CYLINDER WAS READING 600 LOWER THAN THE OTHER 5 AT 1000' AGL. WHEN INITIAL POWER REDUCTION WAS MADE, LOUD EXHAUST POPPING WAS HEARD AND CONTINUOUS. THE PILOT DECIDED TO RETURN TO THE AIRFIELD HAVING MADE SUFFICIENT ALTITUDE TO RETURN TO THE AIRFIELD. ONCE THE PILOT WAS CLEAR AND ON FINAL APPROACH, THE PILOT STATED HE REALIZED HE WAS HIGH AND FAST. THE GEAR WAS DOWN AND THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT ALTITUDE TO ATTEMPT A GO AROUND. THE PILOT COMMITTED TO THE LANDING, EVEN THOUGH HE KNEW HE WAS TO FAST. PILOT SAFELY LANDED THE AIRCRAFT, HOWEVER HE OVERSHOT THE RUNWAY, COMING TO REST BEYOND THE RUNWAY AND STRIKING A LIGHT FARM FENCE AND TREES. THE PILOT STATED GEAR REMAINED UP, AND FUEL WAS INDICATED IN THE TANKS. ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AND POP UNTIL SHUT DOWN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN20LA140](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN20LA140), Apr 1, 2020: Beech 35 (N9883R), Seguin, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s mismanagement of airspeed and glidepath during approach for a precautionary landing, which resulted in a runway excursion and a collision with a fence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
