## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

14 APRIL PILOT TAXIED RUNWAY 04 AND CLEARED FOR TAKE-OFF. HE STARTED DOWN RUNWAY AND ENGINE STARTED TO SPUTTER, PIC ABORTED TAKE-OFF. PIC PULLED OFF RUNWAY AND SUMPED THE FUEL TANKS. WHICH HE DID GET WATER FROM THE LEFT FUEL TANK, WHICH HE WAS USING ON TAKE-OFF. NO WATER IN RIGHT TANK OR ENGINE DRAIN SUMP. PIC CHANGED THE FUEL SELECTOR TO RIGHT TANK AND RAN AIRCRAFT FOR ABOUT 5 MIN. RUNNING FINE, HE STARTED DOWN RUNWAY O4 AGAIN. PIC CLIMBED TO ABOUT 350/400 FEET AND ENGINE STARTED TO SPUTTER AGAIN, AND THEN A COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. PIC DECLARED MAYDAY. PIC NOTICED HE HAD ABOUT 2000 FEET LEFT OF A 7709 RUNWAY AND DECIDED TO LAND BACK ONTO THE RUNWAY. PIC DIDN'T THINK HE WOULD BE ABLE TO STOP AND DEPLOYED THE CHUTE TO HELP WITH DRAG. AIRCRAFT STOPPED 2 FEET FROM END OF RUNWAY. MINOR DAMAGE TO AIRCRAFT FROM DEPLOYING THE CHUTE, NO INJURIES. AIRCRAFT WAS TOWED TO ROGERS AVIATION WHERE THEY SUMPED THE TANK AND GOT WATER FROM THE RIGHT TANK. ENGINES STARTED RIGHT UP - NO MECHANICAL ISSUES WERE NOTED. PIC INDICATED HE HAD STOWED THE AIRCRAFT WITH TANKS HALF FULL AND CONDENSATION MUST HAVE BUILT UP. OPERATIONS INSPECTOR VALIDATED THAT PIC FOLLOWED THE CHECKLIST APPROPRIATELY. NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS REPORTED FROM ROGERS AVIATION WITH THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
