## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS EXPERIENCING MODERATE-SEVERE TURBULENCE WHILE ENROUTE FROM IDAHO TO MONTANA DUE TO HIGH WINDS. PILOT OVERFLEW AIRFIELD AND SET UP FOR PATTERN RWY 20. WINDS WERE DIRECT CROSSWIND RIGHT TO LEFT. APPROACH WAS STABLE, PILOT USED 40 DEGREE FLAPS AND ADDED SPEED FOR GUST FACTOR. PILOT USED 3 POINT LANDING AND CONTINUED ROLLOUT, AT WHICH POINT A GUST KICKED HIS TAIL OUT AND MADE HIM TURN LEFT. HE LOST ELEVATOR AUTHORITY AND WITH THE ADDITION OF BRAKES HIS TAIL END KICKED UP INTO THE AIR WHICH CAUSED A PROP STRIKE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR20CA124](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR20CA124), Apr 16, 2020: Cessna 180 (N53ES), Marion, MT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of directional control and subsequent improper brake application during the landing roll in gusting wind conditions, which resulted in a nose-over.

## Other reports on N53ES (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19860815053049I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19860815053049I), Aug 15, 1986: Cessna 180 (N53ES), Anchorage, AK. Forced landing on go around after power loss. Camshaft gear was missing keys.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
