## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN PLANNED A RECURRENT FLYING DAY IN HIS EXPERIMENTAL SONEX. HE PERFORMED THE ANNUAL INSPECTION JUST A FEW DAYS BEFORE THIS FLIGHT. ONLY ABOUT 1.5 TO 2 HOURS HAD ELAPSED SINCE INSPECTION. AFTER A THOROUGH PREFLIGHT INSPECTION, THE AIRMAN DID A RUNUP AND WENT TO THE PRACTICE AREA FOR 20 MINUTES. HE LANDED AND WENT BACK TO THE RUNWAY FOR ANOTHER TAKEOFF. AT ABOUT 300 FEET AGL, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE PILOT LOCATED A GRAVEL FIELD AND LANDED OFF-AIRPORT SUCCESSFULLY. THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED DUE TO A HARD LANDING. THE PILOT HAD A MINOR SCRAPE AND SOME SEATBELT ABRASIONS ONLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR20CA132](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR20CA132), Apr 27, 2020: Cook Sonex (N1222C), Upland, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A gradual loss of engine power during takeoff due to the pressure regulator not keeping continuous fuel pressure which led to a precautionary off airport landing and collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
