## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT N772SG WAS ON APPROACH TO MADISON COUNTY AIRPORT (MDQ)WHEN THE PILOT REALIZED HE WAS TOO HIGH. THE PILOT INTRODUCED A SLIP MANEUVER TO LOWER HIS ALTITUDE. ONCE THE AIRCRAFT REACHED DESIRED ALTITUDE, THE PILOT INCREASED THE THROTTLE, HOWEVER THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED A DESCENT, BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT PRODUCE ENOUGH POWER IN ORDER TO MAKE IT TO THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GROUND APPROXIMATELY 300 YARDS SHORT OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA20LA164](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA20LA164), Apr 27, 2020: Piper PA32RT (N772SG), Meridianville, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's slip maneuver with a less than full fuel tank selected, which resulted in unporting of the fuel supply, and a total loss of engine power due to fuel starvation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
