## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING INITIAL APPROACH INTO VNY, PILOT NOTICED A FLICKERING HYDRAULIC FLOW ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT. AFTER SELECTING GEAR DOWN, PILOT DID NOT OBSERVE A "DOWN AND LOCKED" INDICATION FOR THE NOSE LANDING GEAR. PILOT ASSUMED NOSE GEAR HAD FAILED TO EXTEND, AND INFORMED VNY OF THE SITUATION, AFTER SEVERAL FAILED ATTEMPTS TO ACHIEVE A "DOWN AND LOCKED" INDICATION. VNY RECOMMENDED PILOT DIVERT TO BUR, DUE TO THE AVAILABILITY OF THEIR CRASH CREW EMERGENCY SERVICES. PILOT THEN DIVERTED TO BUR, INFORMED THE TOWER OF THE EMERGENCY, AND CONDUCTED A FLYBY THE TOWER TO VERIFY NOSE LANDING GEAR POSITION. TOWER INFORMED PILOT THAT THE NOSE LANDING GEAR WAS NOT EXTENDED. PILOT PERFORMED EMERGENCY LANDING PROCEDURES, AND LANDED THE AIRCRAFT. AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGES TO NOSE UNDERCARRIAGE, PROPELLERS, AND FUSELAGE, WHEN AIRCRAFT NOSE CONTACTED RUNWAY ON LANDING ROLL-OUT.

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19830624045949I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19830624045949I), Jun 24, 1983: Cessna 402CESSNA (N2712F), San Francisco, CA. Left engine smoked waiting for takeoff. Replaced cylinder exhaust and intake stacks.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
