## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MAY 15, 2020, PILOT WAS PRACTICING WATER LANDINGS ON LAKE GUNTERSVILLE. PILOT HAD ALREADY COMPLETED SEVERAL SUCCESSFUL LANDINGS. DURING THE LANDING PHASE OF HIS LAST INTENDED LANDING, THE PILOT BECAME DISTRACTED AND FAILED TO RAISE HIS LANDING GEAR PRIOR TO LANDING. AS A RESULT, THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER UPON LANDING IN THE WATER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA20CA187](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA20CA187), May 15, 2020: Aviat A1B (N990HP), Guntersville, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to retract the amphibious airplane's landing gear wheels prior to a water landing, which resulted in a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
