## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT IN COMMAND STATEMENT:

WEATHER WAS AROUND 800' CEILINGS, 3SM VIS, WITH RAIN. I CIRCLED THE LAGOON FROM CHIGNIK LAKE CLOCKWISE AND APPROACHED THE AIRPORT (CHIGNIK LAGOON, KCL) FROM THE NORTH-EAST. COMPARING MY INDICATED AIRSPEED FROM THE GROUND SPEED ON THE GARMIN GPS INSTALLED IN THE AIRCRAFT, I DECIDED A STRAIGHT-IN ON RUNWAY 22 WAS ACCEPTABLE. RAIN ON THE WINDSCREEN MADE SEEING CLEARLY DIFFICULT, SO I FLEW THE APPROACH HIGH TO AVOID HITTING THE EMBANKMENT ON THE APPROACH END OF RWY 22. I TOUCHED DOWN AROUND OR JUST AFTER THE FIRST 1/3RD OF THE RUNWAY AND INITIATED BRAKING. AS I CROSSED HALFWAY I REALIZED I WASN'T SLOWING DOWN FAST ENOUGH, BUT BY THEN I WAS GOING TOO SLOW, WITH TOO LITTLE RUNWAY REMAINING, TO INITIATE A GO-AROUND. I ENDED UP CROSSING THE THRESHOLD AT NO MORE THAN 10 OR 15 KNOTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC20CA061](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC20CA061), Jun 17, 2020: Beech A36 (N777AK), Chignik Lagoon, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper approach, which resulted in a long landing and a runway overrun.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
