## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 02, 2020 AT APPROXIMATELY 1600 EDT FLIGHT INSTRUCTION WAS BEING PERFORMED IN THE SUBJECT AIRCRAFT. DURING THE TAKE-OFF ROLL THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR REDUCED POWER ON THE LEFT ENGINE TO SIMULATE THE LOSS OF AN ENGINE. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED TO THE LEFT. THE STUDENT AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE INSTRUCTOR WERE UNABLE TO CONTROL THE AIRCRAFT BY THE USE OF CONTROL INPUTS TO KEEP THE AIRCRAFT ON THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT EXITED THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT AND STOPPED WHEN IT ENCOUNTERED A BERM. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED, AND NEITHER OCCUPANT SUSTAINED INJURY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA20CA239](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA20CA239), Jul 2, 2020: Beech 76 (N20131), Crystal River, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor's delayed remedial action during a simulated engine failure on takeoff, which resulted in a loss of directional control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
