## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DEPARTED APPLETON, WI (ATW) AT 2130 FOR BRENNAND AIRPORT (79C) TO PICK UP HIS GIRLFRIEND AND HER MOTHER TO WATCH THE FIREWORKS FROM THE AIR. ON APPROACH TO 79C RUNWAY 36, THE PILOT WITNESSED FIREWORKS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF HIM AND CIRCLED AROUND TO RUNWAY 18. ON LANDING, THE PILOT RECALLED AN EXCESSIVE PERIOD OF FLOATING WHILE IN GROUND EFFECT AND BOUNCED TWICE BEFORE FULLY WEIGHTED ON THE RUNWAY. THIS OCCURRED AFTER DESIGNATED GO-AROUND DECISION POINT AND HE DETERMINED THAT A FULL LANDING TO BE SAFER ALTERNATE TO ATTEMPTING TO TAKE OFF ON THE REMAINING RUNWAY AND WITH FIREWORKS IN DEPARTURE PATH. THE AIRCRAFT OVERSHOT RUNWAY INTO THE GRASS, THROUGH A DITCH AND CAME TO REST ON BREEZEWOOD LANE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR20CA208](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR20CA208), Jul 4, 2020: Mooney M20E (N3440X), Neenah, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper landing flare, which resulted in a bounced, hard landing and subsequent runway overrun.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
