## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT DEPARTED LONG ISLAND AIRPORT (NC26) HEADED SOUTH IN VFR CONDITIONS WITH CALM WINDS. PILOT DECIDED TO MAKE A WATER LANDING APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES SOUTH OF NC26 ON THE MAIN CHANNEL OF LAKE NORMAN BUT FAILED TO ENSURE THE LANDING GEAR WAS IN THE PROPER POSITION FOR A WATER LANDING. DUE TO THE LANDING GEAR BEING IN THE WRONG POSITION FOR A WATER LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED MINOR DAMAGE. THE PASSENGER WAS UNINJURED AND THE PILOT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURY. AIRCRAFT WAS DETERMINED TO BE AIRWORTHY AND THE PILOT WAS CURRENT AND QUALIFIED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
