## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE LANDING AT AN OFF-AIRPORT HUNTING STRIP THE PILOT OVERSHOT THE LANDING STRIP, APPLIED HEAVY BREAKING, THEN FLIPPED THE AIRCRAFT ONTO ITS BACK.

THE AIRSTRIP IS LOCATED ON A STEEP HILL WHERE THERE IS NO ROOM FOR A GO-AROUND DURING AN APPROACH TO THIS AIRPORT. GUSTY WINDS AND WIND SHEER CONTRIBUTED TO THE EVENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC20CA075](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC20CA075), Jul 29, 2020: Piper PA18 (N1049P), Chisana, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's overapplication of brakes during landing in gusting tailwind conditions, which resulted in a nose-over.

## Other reports on N1049P (2)

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
