## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE RECOVERING FROM MANEUVERING FLIGHT, THE STUDENT PILOT HEARD A "POP" WHEN ADVANCING THE THROTTLE. THE CFI DID NOT HEAR THE "POP" BUT DID CONFIRM THAT THE THROTTLE WAS UNRESPONSIVE. THE CFI CONDUCTED A FORCED LANDING IN A CLEAR CUT AREA, AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED IN THE LANDING SEQUENCE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA20LA277](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA20LA277), Aug 5, 2020: Piper PA28 (N7213W), St. Agatha, ME, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the crankshaft gear alignment dowel due to fatigue crack propagation and overstress, which resulted in a partial loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
