## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT APPROXIMATELY 1353 LOCAL TIME ON AUGUST 7, 2020, N3737R, AN AEROSPORT CC-340, SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE DURING A LANDING ON RUNWAY 11 AT VETERANS AIRPORT OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (MWA) IN MARION, IL. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS OF TOUCHING DOWN, THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED A WIND SHIFT WHICH LED TO A "GROUND LOOP" WITH THE AIRCRAFT ROTATING TO THE LEFT. DURING THE "GROUND LOOP" THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR EXPERIENCED SIGNIFICANT SIDE LOADING CAUSING IT TO COLLAPSE. AS A RESULT OF THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSE, THE RIGHT WING IMPACTED THE RUNWAY AND SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN20CA333](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN20CA333), Aug 7, 2020: Cub Crafters Carbon CUB EX (N3737R), Marion, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to attain/maintain directional control during landing that resulted in a ground-loop and collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
