PILOT NOTICED ENGINE AND ROTOR RPM ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH A "POPPING" NOISE. HELICOPTER ENTERED POWER ON DECENT, PILOT FLARED AND IMPACTED THE GROUND HARD, WHICH ROLLED THE HELICOPTER.
