## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING THE LANDING FLARE AT BURNT CORRAL MEADOWN THE PILOT REPORTED LOSING SIGHT OF THE AIRSTRIP DUE TO TREES IN FRONT OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT DECIDED TO GO-AROUND BECAUSE PAST TRAINING TAUGHT HIM THAT GOING-AROUND IS ALWAYS THE CORRECT OPTION. HE STATED THAT IN THIS CASE GOING-AROUND WAS THE WRONG OPTION BECAUSE OF THE OBSTACLES IN THE FLIGHT PATH. DURING THE GO-AROUND THE PILOT REPORTED OUT CLIMBING TREES UNTIL HE TURNED RIGHT AND THE AIRPLANE?S RIGHT WING STRUCK A TREE. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE TRIED TO FLY THE AIRPLANE TO THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR20CA261](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR20CA261), Aug 8, 2020: Aviat A1 (N327MN), Kernville, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from trees during a go-around, which resulted in an impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
