## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 08/13/2020 AT 2245Z N3962V TOOK FROM A MOWED GRASS PASTURE. THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) REPORTED ON CLIMB OUT THAT THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT CLIMB FAST ENOUGH TO AVOID OBSTACLES AT THE END OF THE FIELD. THE PILOT ALSO REPORTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT AIRSPEED WAS DECAYING AND THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT CONTINUE TO CLIMB. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A NEARBY PASTURE. TWO PERSONS WERE ON BOARD, THE PIC AND ONE PASSENGER. BOTH SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

PRIOR TO TAKE OFF THE PILOT PERFORMED AN ENGINE RUN UP WITH NO ISSUES REPORTED. HE ALSO REPORTED THAT THERE WERE NO ENGINE RELATED ISSUES DURING TAKE OFF ROLL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA20LA288](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA20LA288), Aug 13, 2020: Cessna 170 (N3962V), Ardmore, TN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate preflight planning and his decision to depart from a constrained, grass-covered field in elevated-density altitude conditions, which resulted in reduced takeoff and climb…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
