## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MONDAY AUGUST 17TH, 2020, THE PIC FLEW N8077G, A 1971 CESSNA 177RG, FROM KFLG TO KSEZ. THE PIC STATED DURING HIS PREFLIGHT HE DID NOT NOTICE ANY FLUIDS UNDERNEATH OR AROUND THE AIRCRAFT IN THE HANGAR. DURING THE RUN UP THE BRAKES HELD THE AIRCRAFT WHILE AT 1800 RPM. COMING IN TO LAND AT KSEZ, THE PILOT TOUCHED THE AIRCRAFT DOWN IN ROUGHLY THE FIRST 1750 FT OF THE 5000 FT RUNWAY. UPON TOUCHING DOWN HE STATED THAT HE LET THE AIRCRAFT ROLL FOR A SECOND THEN BEGAN APPLYING BRAKES. AT FIRST THE BRAKES WERE SPONGY, BUT DID APPLY SOME BREAKING FORCE. HOWEVER, AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE BRAKES NO LONGER PROVIDED ANY STOPPING ACTION. THE PIC STATED THAT HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH RUNWAY TO EXECUTE A GO AROUND. AT THAT POINT HE REALIZED THAT HE WAS COMMITTED TO STOPPING THE AIRCRAFT AND DECIDED TO GO OFF INTO THE DIRT ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE PIC SAID HE STOPPED APPROXIMATELY 20 FT INTO THE DIRT AFTER LEAVING THE RUNWAY. AFTER EXITING, HE WALKED AROUND AND DID NOT SEE ANY DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THIS WAS CORROBORATED BY THE A&P MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT AFTERWARDS AND SERVICED AND BLED THE BRAKES. AFTER CONVERSING WITH THE MECHANIC, THE PIC FELT IT WAS SAFE TO FLY THE AIRCRAFT BACK TO KFLG. THE BRAKES FUNCTIONED NORMALLY AT KFLG AFTER LANDING. DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT DAMAGED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES, THIS ACCIDENT IS DOWNGRADED TO AN INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
