## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

STUDENT PILOT WAS CONDUCTING HIS SOLO CROSS COUNTRY REQUIREMENT FOR PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATION FROM KOFP (HANOVER COUNTY AIRPORT) TO KCHO (CHARLOTTESVILLE ALBEMARLE AIRPORT). PILOT DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY MECHANICAL ABNORMALITIES DURING OPERATION OF THE AIRCRAFT. PILOT WAS CLEARED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 21 AT KCHO. PILOT STATED HE ESTABLISHED A STABLE APPROACH, BUT FLARED HIGH(APPROXIMATELY 5 FEET ABOVE THE RUNWAY). HE STATED THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED 3 TIMES BEFORE THE NOSE LANDING GEAR STRUT COLLAPSED PARTIALLY, CAUSING SUBSEQUENT PROPELLER STRIKE AND MOTOR MOUNT DAMAGE. NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA20CA304](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA20CA304), Aug 28, 2020: Tecnam P92 (N508TE), Charlottesville, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s improper landing flare, which resulted in a hard, bounced landing and a nose landing gear collapse.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
