## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING THIRD AND FINAL TAKEOFF OF THE DAY FROM GRAVEL BAR ON BEAVER CREEK, AFTER BECOMING AIRBORNE, AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED GUSTY WIND FROM LEFT WHICH PICKED UP LEFT WING AND SENT RIGHT WING DOWN INTO A ROOT BALL. PILOT TRIED TO COUNTERACT, BUT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH CONTROL AVAILABLE TO OVERCOME THE WIND. WINGTIP WAS DAMAGED. DURING COLLISION, WING WAS FLEXED WHICH CAUSED RIGHT FLAP TO CONTACT FUSELAGE, DAMAGING BOTH. FLAP WAS IN TAKEOFF POSITION AND LEADING EDGE SLATS HAD RETRACTED AT THE TIME OF THE COLLISION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC20CA092](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC20CA092), Sep 10, 2020: Helio H 295 (N68857), Fairbanks, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to initiate a right turn immediately after departure and his failure to maintain a proper crosswind correction, which resulted in a collision with terrain.
