## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER RETURNING FROM AN AERO TOW THE PILOT ENTERED THE PATTERN FOR RIGHT TRAFFIC TO RUNWAY 30. ON THE DOWNWIND LEG, THE PILOT APPLIED ¼ TO ½ INCH AIRBRAKES WHICH CAUSED THE GLIDER TO BE LOW ON FINAL. THE AIRBRAKES WERE STOWED AND THE GLIDE SLOPE IMPROVED, SO THE PILOT OPENED THE AIRBRAKES AGAIN. THE PILOT IMMEDIATELY SAW THAT THIS WAS NOT APPROPRIATE, AND WITH AN INTENTION OF CLOSING THE AIRBRAKES, OPENED THE AIRBRAKES FURTHER. THE PILOT IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED HIS MISTAKE AND AGAIN CLOSED THE AIRBRAKES.

THE CENTER WHEEL TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT 3? TO 5? SHORT OF THE RUNWAY AND PENETRATE THE COCKPIT UNDER THE PILOT?S SEAT. THE GLIDER BOUNCED INTO THE AIR AND CAME DOWN NOSE FIRST ONTO THE RUNWAY AT A 30 TO 45 DEGREE ANGLE.

THE GLIDER DEPARTED THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT AND CAME TO REST ABOUT 30 FEET OFF THE EDGE OF RUNWAY.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
