## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

CAPE YAKATAGA AIRPORT IS AN FAA OWNED AIRPORT AND LISTED AS PRIVATE IN THE AIRPORT FACILITY DIRECTORY. THE FIELD WAS NOTAMED CLOSED TO AIRCRAFT OVER 5000 LBS ON 10/9/2020. HOWEVER ONE CANNOT NOTAM A PRIVATE FIELD, SO THE NOTAM WAS ISSUED TO THE CYT NDB, WHICH IS COLLOCATED ON THE FIELD.

AIRMEN OPERATING AIRCRAFT RECEIVED WEATHER BRIEFING FROM FSS, BUT DECLINED TO RECEIVE ANY NOTAM INFORMATION.

AIRCRAFT WAS DELIVERING FUEL TO CLIENT WHO OPERATES MINING EQUIPMENT IN AREA. CLIENT ADVISED AIRCRAFT OWNER THAT FIELD WAS DRY PRIOR TO FLIGHT.

FIELD WAS WATER SOAKED WITH ABOUT 1 INCH STANDING WATER IN HEAVILY RUTTED FIELD, ACCORDING TO THREE SEPARATE WITNESSES. FLIGHT CREW OVERFLEW THE FIELD PRIOR TO LANDING FOR VISUAL INSPECTION. AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN ON FIELD AND HAD ZERO BRAKING ACTION, AND SLID OFF THE FAR END OF THE RUNWAY, WHERE THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC21LA001](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC21LA001), Oct 10, 2020: Douglas C54 (N96358), Yakataga, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilots’ decision to land on a wet, soft runway, which resulted in the loss of braking action upon landing and a subsequent runway overrun and nose landing gear collapse.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
