## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DEPARTED RUNWAY PLANNING ON STAYING IN THE PATTERN, MADE LEFT TURN ON CROSSWIND , THEN LEFT TURN DOWN WIND AT WHICH POINT THE ENGINE QUIT RUNNING. PILOT IMMEDIATELY TURNED LEFT AND HEADED TO THE AIRPORT. PILOT WAS TOO LOW TO MAKE RUNWAY AND DECIDED TO LAND STRAIGHT AHEAD IN THE FIELD.

EXTRACTED FROM PILOT WITNESS STATEMENT DATED 10/14/2020.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA21LA018](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA21LA018), Oct 12, 2020: Zenith Stol CH801 (N801TP), Apison, TN, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power due to fuel starvation, as a result of an incorrectly placarded fuel selector.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
