## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 10/16/2020 @ 2319 ZULU, AIRCRAFT N15608 WAS FLYING TO 3G6 FROM 62D WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT. THE PILOT CONTACTED ATC AND TRIED TO MAKE THE AIRPORT, BUT HE REALIZED HE COULDN'T AND ATTEMPTED TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT IN A NEARBY CORN FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT CRASH LANDED IN THE CORN FIELD, TWO MILES NORTH OF 3G6, RESULTING IN A DAMAGED PROPELLER, COLLAPSED NOSE LANDING GEAR, AND WRINKLING OF AIRCRAFT SKIN. THE PILOT SUSTAINED A SMALL BUMP ON HIS HEAD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN21LA020](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN21LA020), Oct 16, 2020: Piper PA-28 (N15608), Beloit, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate preflight inspection and inflight planning that resulted in a total loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
