## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 10/28/2020, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ REMOVED THE AIRCRAFT FROM THE HANGAR IN PREPARATION FOR FLIGHT. WHILE HAND TURNING THE PROPELLER IN AN ATTEMPT TO PRIME THE ENGINE, THE AIRCRAFT INADVERTENTLY STARTED AND BEGAN TO MOVE WITH NO ONE AT THE CONTROLS. MR. MULLEN ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT PIVOTED ON ONE WHEEL AND STRUCK THE HANGAR. THIS RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THAT AIRCRAFT. UPON ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ REVIEW, THE MAGNETO SWITCH WAS IN THE ON POSITION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN21LA037](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN21LA037), Oct 28, 2020: Aeronca 11AC (N9171E), Wabash, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to properly secure the airplane before beginning the engine start sequence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
