## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON NOVEMBER 8 2020 AT CIRCLEVILLE OHIO AIRPORT (CYO) N33DW, A PIPER PA-32-300, WAS TAKING OFF FROM RUNWAY 1 WHEN THE ENGINE STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THE PILOT WHO HOLDS AN INSTRUMENT RATING TURNED SLIGHTLY RIGHT INTO THE WIND AND EXECUTED AN OFF FIELD LANDING IN THE HARVESTED FARM FIELD NEXT TO THE AIRPORT. UPON TOUCHING DOWN IN THE FIELD BOTH WINGS SPARS CRACKED AND BENT DOWN FROM THE WEIGHT OF THE FUEL IN THE AUXILIARY TANKS. THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED OUT FOR ABOUT 100 FEET UNTIL THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED AND BENT THE PROPELLER. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT ON HIS OWN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN21LA049](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN21LA049), Nov 8, 2020: Piper PA32 (N33DW), Circleville, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power due to an accessory drive gear that backed out impeding the other gears.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
