## Narrative

AT 11:40 AM HE ATTEMPTED A LANDING ON BEACH OF THE GREAT SACANDAGA LAKE IN NORTHAMPTON NY, NEAR THE SKY RANCH PLATEAU AIRPORT (1F2). HIS INITIAL ATTEMPT RESULTED IN A GO-AROUND. ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT, HE TOUCHED DOWN TOO FAST. AS HE APPLIED BRAKING, THE WHEELS DUG INTO THE SAND, RESULTING IN THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPING UP ONTO ITS NOSE, AND COMING TO A STOP UPSIDE DOWN. PILOT WAS SOLE OCCUPANT. NO REPORTED INJURIES. AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA21LA060](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA21LA060), Nov 29, 2020: Champion 7EC (N9721N), Northhampton, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s loss of airplane control during an off-airport landing on soft sand, which resulted in a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
