## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON DECEMBER 30, 2020, UNITED AIRLINES FLIGHT 1055, A BOEING 737-800 WITH REGISTRATION NUMBER N73275, OPERATING A FLIGHT FROM HOUSTON BUSH INTERCONTINENTAL AIRPORT (IAH) TO JUAN SANTAMARIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA (MROC) VEERED LEFT OFF OF RUNWAY 7 AFTER TOUCHDOWN AT MROC. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS AT THE TIME INCLUDED HEAVY RAIN.

AFTER TOUCHDOWN, THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR DEPARTED THE RUNWAY SURFACE FOR APPROXIMATELY 250 METERS AND STRUCK MULTIPLE RUNWAY LIGHTS. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR AND BRAKES. BOTH ENGINES EXHIBITED DAMAGE ASSOCIATED WITH INGESTION, AND DAMAGE TO THE PRESSURE VESSEL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO PASSENGERS OR CREW.

NEITHER NTSB NOR FAA ASSETS TRAVELED TO COSTA RICA FOR THIS EVENT.

THE CAPTAIN OF THE FLIGHT WAS A ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ CHECK AIRMAN AND WAS THE PILOT MONITORING. THE FIRST OFFICER WAS THE PILOT FLYING. HE RECENTLY TRANSITIONED TO THE B737 AND WAS COMPLETING AN INITIAL OPERATING EXPERIENCE TRIP.

BOTH PILOTS INDICATED A POSSIBLE HYDROPLANE EVENT ON TOUCHDOWN, BASED ON THE CREW?S REPORT OF BRAKING RESPONSE AND ACTIVATION OF THE ANTI-SKID SYSTEM ON ROLL-OUT.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS FERRIED FOR REPAIRS AND HAS BEEN RETURNED TO SERVICE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DCA21WA061](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DCA21WA061), Dec 30, 2020: Boeing 737-824 (N73275), San Jose, Costa Rica, incident, minor damage

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
