## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DESCRIPTION OF DEVIATION: ON 01/12/2021 AT APPROXIMATELY 2129 CDT. N436T A BEECH P35 AIRCRAFT, LANDED SHORT OF RUNWAY 30 AT POPLAR GROVE AIRPORT (C77). THERE WERE NO PASSENGERS ON BOARD AND NO INJURIES.

N436T WAS ARRIVING FROM ROCKFORD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KRFD) TO C77. UPON ARRIVAL TO C77 THERE WERE NUMEROUS AIRCRAFT IN THE VICINITY OF C77. N436T CIRCLED IN THE PATTERN TWICE TO CREATE PROPER SPACING DUE TO OTHER LANDING AIRCRAFT. ONCE ON FINAL N436T WAS BEHIND ANOTHER AIRCRAFT FOR LANDING RUNWAY 30. THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) STATED HE WAS VERY FOCUSED ON THE PLANE IN FRONT OF HIM AND CONCERNED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT EXIT THE RUNWAY IN TIME FOR N436T TO LAND. N436T LANDED ON THE SURFACE APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF RUNWAY 30. THE MAIN WHEELS TOUCHED FIRST AND THE NOSE WHEEL SLAMMED ON THE GROUND CAUSING IT TO COLLAPSE. WHILE COMING TO A REST N436T HIT A FROZEN SNOW BANK, WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING AND STRUCTURE BEHIND THE ATTACH POINT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN21LA189](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN21LA189), Jan 12, 2021: Beech P35 (N436T), Poplar Grove, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's distraction and his failure to maintain a proper glidepath on the approach, which resulted in him landing short of the runway and impacting a snowbank.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
