## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JANUARY 14/2021, AT 10:10 AM EST, N15CZ, A ?DANILA CHARLES S SR? (EXPERIMENTAL AMATEUR-BUILT ? MODEL: COZY),^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, EXPERIENCED THE AIRCRAFT CANOPY OPENING JUST PRIOR TO REACHING LIFTOFF SPEED ON RUNWAY 4 AT PUNTA GORDA AIRPORT (PGD ? PUNTA GORDA, FL) FOR A PRIVATE FLIGHT. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME. DURING THE PILOT?S ATTEMPT TO REGAIN AND MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL, THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY, IMPACTED A TAXIWAY SIGN (COLLAPSING THE NOSE LANDING GEAR) AND SLID TO A STOP IN THE SAND/GRASS ADJACENT TO THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE AND THE PILOT WAS UNINJURED. THIS WAS THE FIRST FLIGHT ON THIS DAY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
