A CESSNA T182T, N291FR TOOK OFF FROM MEDFORD OR. AIRPORT FOR AN CROSS COUNTRY INSTRUCTION FLIGHT TO CRESCENT CITY CA. AIRPORT (CEC).

14 MILES BEFORE CEC AT 6000 FEET ALTITUDE THE ENGINES TURBO INLET TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, PILOT PUSHED MIXTURE IN, ENGINE THEN RAN ROUGH. PILOT SWITCHED MAGNETOS, TRIED TO LEAN ENGINE AND TURN ON BOOST PUMP. ENGINE THEN LOST POWER, AIRCRAFT STARTED TO DESCEND, PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY THEN DITCHED AIRCRAFT IN A MUDDY MARSH AND AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR21LA098](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR21LA098), Jan 31, 2021: Cessna T182T (N291FR), Crescent City, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The partial loss of engine power due to the failure of both magneto capacitors.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
