## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING A SOLO CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT, THE STUDENT PILOT ARRIVED AT ORANGE COUNTY AIRPORT TO CONDUCT A NORMAL LANDING ON RUNWAY 08. IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN, DURING THE FINAL LEG, THE PILOT STATED THE AIRCRAFT WAS SLIGHTLY HIGH AND SLIGHTLY FAST. THE PILOT CONTINUED TO LAND. UPON LANDING ONTO RUNWAY 08, THE AIRCRAFT LANDED FLAT WITH ALL THREE WHEELS TOUCHING DOWN SIMULTANEOUSLY CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO BALLOON BACK UP INTO THE AIR. THE AIRCRAFT THEN WENT INTO A PORPOISE, BOUNCED AN ADDITIONAL TIME, THEN MADE A HARD LANDING. THE HARD LANDING RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT'S PROPELLER, NOSE GEAR, AND FUSELAGE RECEIVED NOTICEABLE DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA21LA128](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA21LA128), Feb 8, 2021: Cessna 172 (N841SP), Orange, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s improper recovery from a bounced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
