## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE PRACTICING AEROBATIC MANEUVERS, THE SUBJECT AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A PARTIAL POWER LOSS. PIC MADE AN OFF-FIELD LANDING IN A DESERT AREA. THE SUBJECT AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE IN THE FORM OF AN 8? TEAR IN THE FABRIC ON THE LOWER SIDE OF THE RIGHT, LOWER WING, BETWEEN TWO RIBS. A MECHANIC AND HOLDER OF AN IA INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT ALONG WITH THE PIC/OWNER AND OBSERVED THAT THE CARB-HEAT CABLE HAD BECOME DETACHED FROM THE CARBURETOR AIR BOX. THIS HAD ALLOWED THE INTERNAL AIR BOX VALVE TO ROTATE INTO A POSITION THAT RESULTED IN AN OBSTRUCTION AND THUS CAUSING THE PARTIAL POWER LOSS. THE TEAR IN THE FABRIC WAS TEMPORARILY REPAIRED WITH TAPE, THE AIR BOX VALVE WAS WIRED INTO THE OPEN POSITION AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS ISSUED A SPECIAL FLIGHT PERMIT AND WAS FLOWN BACK TO FFZ WITHOUT FURTHER ISSUES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
