## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRMAN WAS RELOCATING AIRCRAFT AFTER BEING IN MAINTENANCE FOR 2 MONTHS. UPON ARRIVING AT THE DESTINATION AIRPORTS WINDS APPEARED TO GUSTY AND VARIABLE. UPON TOUCHDOWN, AIRCRAFT WAS AFFECTED BY A CROSSWIND FROM THE LEFT AND THEN IMMEDIATELY BY CROSSWIND FROM RIGHT. AIRMAN WAS UNABLE TO KEEP THE PLANE ON THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR21LA136](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR21LA136), Mar 16, 2021: Piper PA28 (N5060W), Myrtle Creek, OR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll in gusting wind conditions, which resulted in a runway excursion and impact with terrain.

## Other reports on N5060W (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19780910018779I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19780910018779I), Sep 10, 1978: Piper PA28160 (N5060W), Blackfoot, ID, Minor damage. Aircraft ran off side of runway on touch and go landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
