## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PIC AND TRAINEE WERE PERFORMING FULL-STOP LANDINGS AND TAKE-OFFS ON RWY 26 AT KCFO AT APPROXIMATELY 4:15PM 3/17/2021. WEATHER DATA: KCFO 172126Z 06003KT 1OSM FEW 075 BKN22O 06/M03 A3012. AFTER SECOND LANDING STOP, PIC INSTRUCTED TRAINEE TO PERFORM A SHORT-FIELD TAKE-OFF. TRAINEE HELD BRAKES AND APPLIED FULL POWER. AS AIRCRAFT STARTED MOVING, TRAINEE BEGAN PULLING BACK ON THE YOKE. TRAINEE DID NOT APPLY SUFFICIENT RIGHT RUDDER AND SAID HE LOST SIGHT OF THE RUNWAY DUE TO THE NOSE HIGH PITCH ATTITUDE. PIC ANNOUNCED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS VEERING LEFT, BUT TRAINEE FAILED TO APPLY ADEQUATE RIGHT RUDDER. AIRCRAFT EXITED THE RUNWAY AT ABOUT 35 KIAS INTO A SNOW BERM WHICH WAS CREATED BY PLOWS CLEARING THE RUNWAY FOLLOWING A SNOWSTORM EARLIER THAT WEEK. THE PROP AND BOTH WING TIPS STRUCK THE GROUND AND THE AIRCRAFT GROUND LOOPED APPROXIMATELY 150 DEGREES BACK ONTO THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN21LA160](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN21LA160), Mar 17, 2021: Cessna 172 (N786CP), Watkins, CO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during takeoff and the instructor pilot’s inadequate supervision of the pilot’s takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
