2021-04-30 N92505 SOLO PRIVATE PILOT STUDENT (SP) ON THE FIRST SOLO CROSS COUNTRY COLLAPSED THE NOSE GEAR ON FIRST LANDING ATTEMPT A KULM

ON THE DAY OF THE FLIGHT THE CFI AND STUDENT PILOT MET AND REVIEWED HER QUESTIONS/CONFIRMED HER PLAN/REVIEWED THE WEATHER. SHE TOOK OFF FROM KFCM AND ARRIVED AT KULM, PROUD OF HERSELF FOR FINDING THE AIRPORT SO QUICKLY. THE SP ANNOUNCED HER PLAN TO KULM TRAFFIC AND ENTERED THE PATTERN ON THE DOWNWIND. AFTER TURNING BASE, SHE DECIDED TO DO A GO-AROUND TO ENSURE CONFIDENCE FOR LANDING AND ALLOW TIME TO PREPARE AND IDENTIFY IF THE WINDS HAD CHANGED. FLAPS WERE SET AND THE SP FELT CONFIDENT IN THE LANDING. THE SP REMEMBERED BEING FAST AS THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN. SHE LANDED FLAT, THE PLANE BEGAN TO ?LEAPFROG? OF SORTS, AND IT BOUNCED THREE TIMES. AS STUDENT PILOT, HAVING NEVER DEALT WITH THIS, THE SP STATED SHE FELT UNQUALIFIED TO RECOVER IN THAT MOMENT. AFTER RECOGNIZING THERE WAS A PROP STRIKE, BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE AIRCRAFT STOPPED MID-RUNWAY. THE SP FOLLOWED PROCEDURES, INFORMED THE AIRSPACE, SHUT DOWN THE PLANE AND CONTACTED HER CFI AND FLIGHT SCHOOL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
