## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE CONDUCTING SOLO PATTERN WORK (FULL STOP TAXI BACK) WHILE THE INSTRUCTOR WAS OBSERVING FROM THE GROUND, THE STUDENT PILOT LOST CONTROL DURING THE FLARE OF HIS 3RD LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT PORPOISED HITTING THE PROPELLER, BUCKLING THE FIREWALL AND FUSELAGE. AFTER THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED ON THE RUNWAY THE STUDENT TAXIED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT TO THE RAMP WHERE HE WAS MET BY HIS INSTRUCTOR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR21LA186](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR21LA186), May 8, 2021: Cessna 172P (N54140), Tucson, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s improper pitch control and landing flare, which resulted in a hard bounce and subsequent porpoised landing.

## Other reports on N54140 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19910328013819I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910328013819I), Mar 28, 1991: Cessna 172P (N54140), Chicago, IL, Minor damage. Lost directional control on a crosswind landing. Ground looped and wing tip hit the runway.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
