## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FROM EDITED STATEMENT OF AIRMAN ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^:

"I WAS ENTERING A DOWNWIND FOR 19L. I WAS TURNING BASE, OTHER AIRCRAFT IN THE PATTERN STATED STRONG WIND AND GUSTS. I CALLED LONG FINAL 2 MILES OUT, IT WAS TURBULENT, BUT I HAD NO TROUBLE HANDLING IT,

INDICATED AIRSPEED WAS ABOUT 70 AND GPS GROUND SPEED 50.

I DIDN?T ADD FLAPS UNTIL I WAS AT 500? AGL WHEN I PUT IN 15% FLAPS.

AROUND 200? AGL I WAS HAVING TROUBLE KEEPING THE PLANE LEVEL AND LINED UP ON THE RUNWAY.

THE RIGHT WING LIFTED ABOUT 20 OR 30 DEGREES, I MOVED THE STICK RIGHT, THAT HELPED, I PUSHED FULL RIGHT RUDDER AND THE PLANE TURNED TO THE LEFT.

DUE TO A BAD CROSS WIND, I DECIDED TO LAND OFF THE RUNWAY IN A BIG GRASS FIELD.

THEN THE RIGHT WING HIT A CHAIN LINK FENCE."

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA21LA220](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA21LA220), May 10, 2021: Douglas K Thompson Justaircraft Superst (N184DT), Brunswick, ME, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate compensation for the prevailing wind conditions, which resulted in a loss of directional control during the approach and landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
