## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT BEGAN TO FEEL THE ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH AND THEN APPLIED CARBURETOR HEAT AND FULL THROTTLE. AT THAT POINT THE ENGINE HAD LOST POWER, THE CARBURETOR HEAT WAS APPLIED TOO LATE. HE DECIDED TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT IN A FIELD NEAR THE FREEWAY. HE MADE A SUCCESSFUL LANDING AND ROLLED APPROXIMATELY 40 FEET AT WHICH POINT HE MADE CONTACT WITH AN IRRIGATION LINE WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP AND LAND INVERTED. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE RUDDER AS A RESULT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR21LA205](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR21LA205), May 23, 2021: Boeing A75N1(PT17) (N87WF), Ventura, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The partial loss of engine power, during cruise flight, due to the formation of carburetor ice, which resulted in a forced landing to an open field where the airplane nosed over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
